Women’s tennis participates in the Gonzaga Invite this weekend

Story Links Women’s Tennis returns to action this week as they hit the road to play in the Gonzaga Invitational. The competition runs from Friday, October 28 to Sunday, October 30.

“We are ready and eager to participate in the Gonzaga Invite again this weekend,” said head coach Dustin Hinson. “We get the chance to see and beat several of our opponents at the conference, which is always good. We’ve trained hard and look good in practice. I’m excited to see how we compete in our first indoor event of the fall season.”

At the tournament, Eastern will be one of six teams competing in three singles draws and two doubles.

Single draws In the blue bracket singles, Isabella Foshee opens against Kianna Oda from Gonzaga. Leandra Nizetic takes on Rose Hayes of Gonzaga and Scout Mathews takes on Rimona Rouf of Portland.

The red bracket singles draw, Renata Gabuzyan starts against Montana State’s Felicia Jayasapurtra. Kenzington Mann will face Maria Villarejo of Montana State in the first round.

In the white braces singles, Sara Vasic plays against Portland State’s Madison Egan. Taylor Andersen takes on Ivayla Mitkova in the quarterfinals after a first round bye.

Double Draw Opening the blue bracket doubles, Andersen and Mathews form together against Montana’s Maria Goheen and Olivia Oosterbaan. Foshee and Nizetic will face off together against Portland State’s Madison Egan and Nell Arendt.

In the red bracket doubles, Mann and Gabuzyan will compete against Maria Villarejo of Montana State and Elizabeth Strongina of PSU. Vasic will also compete in the red doubles and play with Montana’s Nancy Cabanas.

Last Time Out Eastern was last on the track two weeks ago at the ITA Northwest Regionals in Stanford, California. At the regionals, Kenzington Mann and Taylor Andersen won two doubles matches in the consolation round. Mann would also go on to win two singles against Santa Clara’s Kacey Feng (6-4, 6-2) and Saint Mary’s Jamie Pope (6-2, 6-2).

Isabella Foshee and Leandra Nizetic joined forces to win two doubles matches at Stanford as well. Foshee won two singles, beating Sacramento State’s Tsveti Yotova (3-6, 6-3 (10-7)) and Saint Mary’s Stefanie Silva (6-1, 5-7 (10-8)). Nizetic would beat Fresno State’s Leann Serna in singles (7-5, 6-3).

Up Next Eastern Washington’s fall schedule comes to an end during the San Diego State Fall Classic, taking place from Friday, November 11 through Sunday, November 13.
