NASHVILLE, Tennessee (WKRN) – While it appears that Nate Davis and Zach Cunningham will return against Houston on Sunday, Ryan Tannehill and Jeffery Simmons are both listed as doubtful with ankle injuries.
The Titans also added “illness” next to Tannehill’s name on the injury report. And while he was limited on Thursday, he didn’t practice on Friday.
It’s safe to think that the Titans are really gearing up for Tannehill to miss his first start since becoming their starter in 2019, but is Malik Willis ready for his first career start?
His teammates and coaches believe so.
“We have confidence in Malik,” said Titans wide receiver Robert Woods. “He still needs to run the same game plan and still put us in a good position to win. And of course we need to get up and make sure he’s comfortable. But really, we’re just asking Malik to up his game play, let him be comfortable and make the throws when needed.”
“I think experience is irreplaceable,” said offensive coordinator Todd Downing. “And Malik did a great job yesterday with the things we asked him to do. He’s grown every day and he’s learning what it’s like to be a professional quarterback. I think all those things are great for Malik.”
The Titans will face the Texans at NRG Stadium on Sunday. Kick-off is set for 3:05 AM CST.
