Spiders Cross Country hosts Atlantic 10 Championships on Saturday

Story Links Richmond, Va.- The University of Richmond’s men’s and women’s cross country teams will host the 2022 Atlantic 10 Cross Country Championships Saturday at Pole Green Park in Mechanicsville. The women’s 5K is at 10am, while the men’s five-mile race starts at 10:50am

A fast course, nine of the top 20 men’s championships were won at Pole Green Park, and that number jumped to 16 for the women. The home lane advantage has proved beneficial as the Spiders won four team championships at Pole Green (3 women, 1 men).

The Spiders seem to improve on their performance from a year ago, when the women finished fourth and the men fifth. Peter Borger looks set to become the first Spider-runner, male or female, to become an individual champion in consecutive years. Borger crossed the finish line in first place last year at 24:35.3, while Stuart Terrill followed with a 24:47.6 in third.

In the women’s race, Elizabeth Stockman led the Spiders with an 18:01.2 for eighth place.

Last time out, the Richmond women led all A-10 teams on their way to second place at the ECAC Championships in the Bronx. Richmond was the top A-10 team in the event, finishing ahead of the other four (George Mason 7th, UMass 14th, St. Joseph’s 18th, Fordham 22nd). In the men’s race, Terrill finished ninth overall with a 24:12.7, while the Spiders took 15th out of 31 teams.
