Shaheen Shah Afridi’s form was a major concern for Pakistan during the ongoing T20 World Championship. Shaheen, who missed the Asian Cup last month due to a knee injury, was included in Pakistan’s roster for the T20 World Cup, despite having recently undergone rehabilitation. However, things have not gone as planned for Pakistan as Shaheen struggled to perform in Pakistan’s first two matches which they lost to India and Zimbabwe respectively.
With Pakistan needing nothing less than a win in their next match, which will be against the Netherlands, former captain Shahid Afridi has shared his views on whether Shaheen should be part of the playing XI on Sunday.
Afridi believes that while everyone wants Shaheen to regain full steam, it is up to the captain and management to decide whether a player should play or not.
“I won’t say much because there are still three games to go. It’s up to the captain to decide whether he wants to play Shaheen or not. But if you think, if you have five bowlers, don’t expect them all to “The same is the case with the batters. So we want Shaheen to get back into the groove. I think he bowled better against Zimbabwe than against India. Our bowlers need to warm up before the game. You can’t start a match thinking I’ll pick up the pace after bowling two to three balls. That’s not the case, as the batters are ready to take aim at you,” Afridi said during a discussion on SamaaTV.
With two defeats from two appearances, Pakistan is fifth in the points, ahead of the Netherlands, which is at the bottom.
Both teams will face each other in Perth on Sunday.
