Rutgers Swimming and diving lead after day one with Purdue

Story Links PISCATAWAY, NJ – The Rutgers women’s swim and dive team holds a 93-74 lead over Purdue after 10 events on day one at the Rutgers Aquatics Center.

The Scarlet Knights won seven events led by Sofia Chichaikina in first place in the 200 fly and leading the 200 medley relay. Rutgers also set a top-10 time record with Martyna Piesko’s first-place swim in the 200 back. Other wins were taken by Holly Prasanto with a new best at 3 meters, Madison Murtagh in the 500 free and Rachel Kimmel in the 200 chest.

Martyna Piesko hit the wall in 1:59.48 to not only win back the 200, but also place her name in the RU top 10 with the eighth fastest time in school history. It was also a 1-2 finish in the 100 flies for RU. Sofia Chichaikina took first place in 2:01.29 and Viktoriia Kostromina took second place in 2:02.86. Graduate Alice Scarabelli finished second of the evening with 51.17 in the 100 free with Sofia Maksimova just behind in third in 51.94 Graduate Rachel Kimmel took first in the 200 chest hold by a 5.53 second margin of victory in her 2:15.83 swim and was the runner-up in the 200 IM with a time of 2:03.67. Sophomore Holly Prasanto set another PR in winning 3-meter with a score of 316.95. Classmate Giulia Vittorioso also achieved a new PR with a score of 288.00 in third place. 100 free 2.
