Recent Match Report – Afghanistan vs Sri Lanka 3rd ODI 2022/23

Afghanistan chose to strike against Sri Lanka

Afghanistan won the toss and opted to bat for the third time in this three-match ODI series, with the Pallekele field expected to be better for batting in the afternoon than in the evening.

With this surface expected to provide more spin than the previous two throws used in the series, both sides have amped up their spin attacks at the expense of their seam battery. Sri Lanka brought in spin-bowling all-rounder Dunith Wellalage to replace seam-bowling all-rounder Dhananjaya Lakshan, and has also replaced Lahiru Kumara with the skiddier fast Asitha Fernando. Afghanistan, meanwhile, omitted zeeker Yamin Ahmadzai for left arm wrist spinner Noor Ahmad .Afghanistan had won the first game by 60 runs, before the second game was abandoned before a result could be reached. However, Sri Lanka was well placed in that second game.
