Colt Nichols may have experienced more highs and lows right now than anyone else in the game. He came out of the 250SX East Supercross Championship last year and never even scored a point in 2022, he crashed out of his Anaheim 1 heat race while running in 250SX West.
The injuries were bad and Colt never came back to a race. Then came more pain: An injury clause meant he didn’t get paid, then he asked to get out of his Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing contract early so he could get a head start on a new 450 team. Then that team closed. Then he tried his hand at racing FIM World Supercross together. He was running out of time and that didn’t work out the way he’d hoped. When it seemed like everything was going wrong, something went right: After Ken Roczen parted ways, Honda had a 450 opening in supercross. Thus, Nichols landed a supercross deal with a coveted works crew. Now he’s betting on himself for 2023, looking to make an impact in his rookie 450 season.
Jason Weigandt calls Colt to find out the details, including the injury timeline, wages, home sales, training, preparation, and more.
