Story Links BETHLEHEM, Pa. – Lehigh’s volleyball team heads out for a few Patriot League games this weekend, starting with Army West Point on Friday at 7 p.m. on ESPN+, followed by a game at Holy Cross on Saturday at 4 p.m.
The Mountain Hawks, 12-11 overall and 3-8 in Patriot League action, come home after a 1-1 weekend. Lehigh defeated Bucknell, 3-2, in a back-and-forth five-set game on Saturday before falling 3-1 to Lafayette at The Rivalry presented by Lehigh Valley Orthopedic Institute.
Sophomore Megan Schulte, the team leader in kills, and freshman Natalie Luscomb, who is second in kills, both made 23 kills in their two games last weekend. Schulte added 10 blocks, eight digs and two assists, while Patriot League commendation Luscomb contributed six blocks and had a 0.373 batting rate. The Mountain Hawks also had 32 team blocks in the two games.
Sophomore Makena Smith scored 68 assists last weekend, 41 of them in the win against Bucknell and her career-high seven kills draw. She currently leads the team with 758 assists this season. Sophomore Kyleigh Brown contributed 47 digs for the Mountain Hawks, bringing her to 349 this year.
Leger is currently 13-8 in the season and 9-2 in the league and on a three-game winning streak in Friday’s game. The Black Knights, who are playing four of their last five games, face Lafayette the following day to close out the weekend.
Junior Paige Fixemer leads the army with 222 kills this season, while fellow junior Savannah follows Bray closely with 215 kills. Fixemer also registered 84 blocks, with 20 solo blocks, which is a team high. Sophomore Diana Ethridge has logged 790 assists in the year leading all Black Knights.
The Mountain Hawks are looking for their 17th all-time win against Army this weekend and their first win over the Black Knights since 2018. In their first meeting this season, Army defeated Lehigh 3-1 at Grace Hall.
Holy Cross will host the Mountain Hawks on Saturday, after the Crusaders face Bucknell on Friday night. The Crusaders are 2-20 overall and 0-11 in the Patriot League playing for their games this weekend after dropping games against Loyola (Md.) and Navy in straight sets a week ago.
The Crusaders are led by sophomore Abbie Lane and freshman Rachel Johnson, who both have 150 dead. Senior Gracyn Benck is close behind with 147 kills. Senior Halle Carter speeds up Holy Cross by logging 325 assists over the season, while freshman Katie Russell added 215 assists. Defensively, sophomore Lauren Halverson leads the Crusaders by 40 blocks, while senior Emma Vanseveren has a team-high 268 digs.
Lehigh will be looking for the 47th overall win over Holy Cross and third straight win over the Crusaders on Saturday afternoon. In their previous encounter this season, Lehigh took a 3-1 victory in Bethlehem.
After this weekend’s action, Lehigh will return to the Leeman-Turner Arena at Grace Hall for their final home games of the season. The Mountain Hawks will face Navy on Friday, November 4 at 7 PM, followed by American on Saturday, November 5 at 4 PM. Both games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
