IPL 2023 Retention – IPL 2023 Auction: While all eyes are on T20 World Cup, IPL franchises are busy finalizing their retentions…

IPL 2023 Retention – IPL 2023 Auction: While all eyes are on T20 World Cup, IPL franchises are busy finalizing their retention list for the Mini Auction on December 16. The BCCI has set a November 16 deadline for the franchises to send the final list of retained players. Franchises can keep up to 15 players this time around and will be forced to release the rest of the 10. For IPL 2022, the squad size was set at a minimum of 18 and a maximum of 25. For IPL 2023 Auction, franchises have a total salary grant of Rs 95 Crore. That means a team will have the remaining amount left after finalizing their retained rosters.

Furthermore, franchisees have the remaining amount of IPL 2022 Auction. For example, Punjab Kings have Rs 3.45 crore in their wallets even before finalizing the roster. As for the auction, it could take place outside of India for the first time ever as BCCI is positive for it to take place in Istanbul.

“We are positive about running it outside of India. IPL is now a global brand and it only makes sense to spread its wings and spread awareness. Istambul is a great holiday destination and has all the amenities to keep the auction there. Most franchises are on board with it. The idea is to take it to different shores like NBA does to raise awareness and build new fan bases. But we are still in talks and a decision will be made at the next GC meeting,” a senior BCCI official told InsideSport.

IPL 2023 retention: what does the franchise do with retentions?

PBKS: After another disappointing season, Punjab Kings will see a change, especially with new coaching staff on board. Trevor Bayliss and Brad Haddin will meet with PBKS management and owners in the coming days to finalize the roster. However, the talks are already underway. CSK: The most talked-about player in the trading window is Ravindra Jadeja. While the player isn’t happy with the treatment after removing him as captain, the franchise is still in the process of restoring bridges. However, players such as Adam Milne can be released for suitable replacements. Robin Uthappa has already announced his retirement. Therefore, CSK also needs a batter of the highest order. MI: After going through a terrible campaign, five-time champions need some rebuilding. Daniel Sams, Fabian Allen, Basil Thampi and Ramandeep Singh can all be released. Riley Meredith could stay, but Jaydev Unadkat and Murugan Ashwin may find it hard to get a seat. The good news is that Jofra Archer is back in training and will likely be available for IPL 2023. LSG: The KL Rahul-led franchise did everything right last time, except for the final. However, it is their middle order that needs to be bolstered with the failure of Manish Pandey. The captain of Karnataka is likely to be released.

RCB has one of the strongest squads in IPL with a great mix of domestic and foreign stars. But players like Siddharth Kaul, Chama Milind and Jason Behrendorff could be on their way to becoming a seam-bowling all-rounder. RR: Despite a strong show, RR came up short last time. However, as Ben Stokes is likely to be available, RR may try to tie him into the auction. For that to happen, RR can let go of Daryl Mitchell, who struggled last time. Nathan Coulter-Nile is probably on his way out too. KKR: Another team that takes center stage during the retention phase is KKR. Veterans like Aaron Finch and Ajinkya Rahane are likely to be let loose alongside Mohammad Nabi. There is also a question mark over Venkatesh Iyer, who endured a bad IPL 2022 campaign and was subsequently removed from Team India. GT: The defending champion has his bases covered. But people like Vijay Shankar and Matthew Wade can be fired for new faces. Both players struggled for GT in IPL 2022. SRH: After a bad campaign, even Captain Kane Williamson’s place is up in the air. However, SRH with a new coaching staff will likely keep Williamson. But Romario Shepherd, Shreyas Gopal and R Samarth next to Nicholas Pooran’s place could be in danger. DC: As reported, Shardul Thakur is likely to be released by Delhi Capitals. KS Bharat and Mandeep Singh are also on their way. The backup roster can also be sent to auction with the likes of Chetan Sakariya.

IPL 2023 Date: As expected, the IPL is expected to start in the last week of March around March 22 or 23. However, a final decision is expected during auctions when the IPL board meets.

IPL 2023 format: home and away to return: As previously reported by InsideSport, the home and away format is returning. It has already been confirmed by BCCI president Sourav Ganguly in his letter to the state associations.
