Since its launch in 2019, the Honda CB650R has changed the landscape of the 650cc naked bike class. Formerly dominated by machines like the Kawasaki Z650 and Yamaha MT-07, the addition of the CB650R has raised the bar in features, performance and, not to forget, style. For a little more money, you could get a retro-style naked bike with a four-cylinder engine.
At the time, the CB650R was the only bike in its class with an inline-four. Plus, it had more premium components like Showa BPF forks and Nissin brakes. Needless to say, Honda struck a chord with the CB650R, and the bike has remained virtually unchanged since its ’19 launch. The same goes for the 2023 model, as Honda has again applied some new paint and called it a day. More specifically, Honda has released the 2023 CB650R in two new colors, consisting of Matt Dim Gray Metallic and Matt Gunpowder Black Metallic. The existing Candy Chromoshpere Red and Matt Jeans Blue Metallic will remain available.
What is interesting is the Matt Gunpowder Black Metallic paint scheme, which is something many CB owners wanted from the factory. It has an all black motif with subtle red accents on the wheels. Even the cam cover, engine cases, forks, levers and footpegs have been darkened to match the aesthetic.
Next, the CBR650R gets a similar treatment to its neo-retro naked sibling. The bike will receive visual updates in the form of updates to the Grand Prix Red and Matt Gunpowder Black Metallic liveries. More specifically, the updated models have darkened engine cases and camshafts, as well as redesigned graphics. New blue highlights contrasting with the black paintwork give a sporty feel to the black bike, while the red bike gets a new black front fender and belly pan with a red Honda logo reminiscent of Honda’s racing bikes.
