Hicks on Bowerman Watch List

STANFORD, Calif. – NCAA cross-country champion Charles Hicks has been named to the men’s waiting list for The Bowerman, collegiate athletics’ Heisman Trophy.

Hicks, a cognitive science major who is a junior in fitness and an academic senior, ranks tenth on the preseason list, which will be updated seven times during the June 7-10 NCAA Outdoor Championships. The semi-finalists will be announced on June 20 and the finalists on June 27. The next update is on February 2.

This is Hicks’ first time on the Bowerman watchlist. He is a seven-time All-American and on November 19 became the first Stanford man or woman to win an NCAA individual cross country title.

On the track, he is a two-time Pac-12 champion in the 10,000 meters and has a best NCAA finish of third, in the 3,000 at the 2022 indoor meeting. Hicks is also a two-time European under-23 cross-country champion, representing Great Britain. Britain.

Stanford athletes were last on Bowerman watchlists in 2019, with Grant Fisher and Mackenzie Little. The most recent and only Stanford finalist was 2013 when collegiate 400 hurdle record holder Kori Carter was one of the final three women.
