Churches in Berks County to Celebrate All Saints’ Day [Religion Digest]

Nov 5 St. John’s (Hain’s) United Church of Christ, 591 N. Church Rd., Lower Heidelberg Township, will hold an All Saints service on Sunday at 9:30 a.m. with Holy Communion and the dedication of a new memorial table. Everyone is invited to light a candle in honor of deceased loved ones. The Chancel Choir will perform Harold Friedell’s anthem “Draw Is In The Spirit’s Tether”.

-Christ Lutheran Church, 222 Niantic Road, Barto, will worship on All Saints’ Day at 9:00 am, with Holy Communion, remembering all the saints of the congregation and those close to the congregation. The confirmation class is held at 10am in room I and the Sunday/Bible class for adults is at 10am in the drawing room.

— The United Church of Christ in Robesonia will worship on All Saints’ Day at 10:15 a.m. at 301 W. Penn Ave., with Holy Communion, via YouTube, in person, via Facebook, and by phone. People who have died in the past year are honored. Candles are lit for each person, the bell rings and flowers are offered to relatives. Bible study is held on Tuesday mornings at 9 a.m. at Zoom and on Wednesday evenings at Zoom and in person. Christmas candy is being made this week. Everyone is invited to help. -Reformation Lutheran Church, 3670 Perkiomen Ave., Exeter Township, will celebrate All Saints’ Day by remembering those who passed this year with candlelight and bell-ringing at 8:30 and 10:30 a.m. worship services, both with Holy Communion. The 10:30 am service will be streamed live on Reformation’s Facebook page and can be viewed live or later at www.Reformationlutheran.org under worship videos. Sunday School for all ages begins at 9:30 am. The Department of Health team will offer blood pressure checks in the church library between services.

—St. John’s Gernant’s Church (a federated congregation), 13 Gernant’s Church Road, Ontelaunee Township, will worship at Memorial Hall on All Saints’ Day at 9:30 a.m., with Holy Communion. Candles will be lit in honor of the memories of members who passed away this year. Those wishing to honor the memories of other loved ones who passed away prior to this year are welcome to light a candle as well. The chorus song is “Hark, I Hear The Harps Eternal”. Musician for the service is Shirley Breininger. Bible study will be held Tuesday at 1:00 PM. A fundraiser for potato stuffing will be held this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Cost $8 per liter or $13 per pan (pans are about 2 1/2 liters.) Call church at 610-926-2384 to pre-order.

—St. John’s Lutheran Church, 1 Front St. Plaza, Mohnton, will be holding a WELCA Thanksgiving service at 10 a.m. on Nov. 13 with Piercing Word, a theatrical performance group whose lyrics are taken directly from the Bible. — Calvary United Church of Christ, 640 Center Ave., Reading, commemorates the Saints on All Saints’ Day at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., with special music at the second service by Music Director Megan Charlesworth, organist Dr. Steve Katzenmoyer, and the Rev. Steve Ohnsman, pastor.

Grace Lutheran Church, 30 Liberty St., Shillington, will premiere a special choral song composed by high school junior Patrick Skoniczin to celebrate All Saints’ Day during a personal service at 9:30 a.m., with Holy Communion. Online worship is available after 11:30 a.m. at graceshillington.org.

-Friedens United Church of Christ, 337 Main St., Oley, offers both personalized service and participation via Zoom and YouTube on All Saints Sunday at 10:15 AM. Members who died in the previous year are remembered by lighting a candle and ringing the church bell. The Mission Team will be holding a drive-thru drop-off from 9-11 today for the collection of canned goods, hygiene products and paper products that will be taken to the Veterans Center for distribution. -Maranatha Baptist Church, 25 Gaul Road, Lower Heidelberg Township, will begin a Thanksgiving themed series called “Making Much of God,” beginning Sunday at 10:45 AM and continuing every Sunday in November. A new song is introduced that matches the opening message.

-Christ Episcopal Church, 435 Court St., Reading, Christ Episcopal Church, 435 Court St., Reading, presents a David Cullen “Songs of Hope and Peace in Troubling Times” song tonight at 5:30 p.m. There will also be two worship services on Sunday mornings, both including Holy Eucharist: at 8am, a named service (no music); and at 10am a family service with music. A Sunday School for children is held at 9am and the adult forum reads “Coffee with Deacon Midge” in the drawing room. Masks are optional. —Zion’s Lutheran Church, 354 Zions Church Road, Perry Township, will celebrate All Saints’ Day at 10:30 AM, including a time of remembrance. The service will also be available on Facebook Live and the Church website, Sunday School for all ages begins at 9:15 AM. Zion’s Women of the ELCA will celebrate National Gratitude Month by collecting items for Mary’s Shelter for the benefit of their clients (homeless teens and pregnant women). The items will be collected through November 20. Zion’s WELCA meets at church Monday at 7 p.m.

-Bern Reformed United Church of Christ, 3196 Bernville Road, Bern Township, will have personal adoration on All Saints’ Day at 9:30 a.m., with Holy Communion. Fallen relatives are commemorated. You can also participate from your vehicle in the parking lot through an FM 87.9 broadcast or on Facebook.

-Kissinger’s Church, 715 Berkshire Blvd., Wyomissing, will hold a prayer hour Wednesday at 4 p.m. The public is invited to attend to make prayer requests and pray for others.

— Maidencreek Church, 261 Main St., Maidencreek Township, will hold a hybrid worship service on All Saints’ Day at 9:00 am. Music includes two piano selections by Kimberly Ayrton; a trumpet solo by Jamie Ayrton; and the National Anthem of the Senior Choir. The service will be streamed live to Facebook and YouTube.
