Auto Expo 2023

The Auto Expo in India will take place next year after a three-year hiatus caused by COVID-19. However, the event has witnessed some big names drop out. Major automakers from both four-wheeler and two-wheeler companies have pulled out of the upcoming event.

To start the list, big names like Hero Moto, Honda Motorcycle and Scooter India (HMSI), Bajaj Auto, Royal Enfield and Harley-Davidson. These companies account for nearly 99% of two-wheeler sales

On the quadricycle side, big names such as Mercedes Benz, BMW, Audi, Volkswagen, Mahindra & Mahindra and Renault have decided not to participate. On the other hand, companies like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, Toyota, Kia and BYD have decided to participate.

Toyota’s luxury arm, Lexus will be the only premium automaker at the 2023 Auto Expo. The company has been under new management and they are looking to expand.

In the report published by TOI Auto, a source from one of the automakers said the costs of events were prohibitive, including their own costs of logistics, imports of vehicles and engines, infrastructure, boarding and lodging.

The source further added that Greater Noida also doesn’t attract the right kind of visitors for our vehicles. SIAM, which runs the Auto Expo together with the trade association CII, is in talks to persuade a number of companies to participate.

There are several companies willing to re-evaluate their stance on participation if the event is moved to Pragati maida. Officials from both SIAM and CII will actively discuss this matter.
