20 years of marketing in 20 cartoons

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Marketoonist, we asked the founder, Tom Fishburne, to select 20 cartoons that summarize some of the most significant moments in marketing from the past two decades.

For the past two decades, the Marketoonist has entertained audiences with his witty and sharp observations on marketing.

To celebrate its 20th anniversary, Marketing Week asked the man behind the cartoons – Tom Fishburne – to take us on a journey through marketing through his illustrations.

Fishburne, who is a marketer by trade, first started drawing cartoons to entertain his colleagues while working at General Mills. Eight years later, he took the plunge and made Marketoonist his full-time job, helping companies communicate marketing stories through his humorous drawings.

Watch the video above to hear from the man himself as he walks us through some of the pivotal moments and marketing mistakes of the past 20 years.

Later this week, we’ll speak to Fishburne for the latest edition of Marketing Week’s This Much I Learned podcast. We’ll also ask readers to pick their favorite cartoon from the past two decades – the Marketoonist has selected 10 of his most popular cartoons, so look forward to your chance to vote next week.
